Dear Parents and Carers,
A big welcome to you and your child to Kenn C of E Primary School. We are looking forward to getting to know all of you and supporting your child to progress on their learning journey. From September, your child will be attending Class 1 which will be a straight EYFS group. This means that we will have approx 16 children and they will all be in the foundation year.
Due to the current climate we find ourselves in, we are unable to provide our normal transition programme. However, we have been working hard to try and find solutions for this. Below is a list of what we are proposing to help your child make the transition to our school.
Firstly, in order to help familiarise your child with their class teachers, we will be posting video clips on the school website of either Mrs Tetlow or Mrs Garner reading a story. For those children who attend Playbox, we will also be directing them to the story clips so that they can show the children.
Usually, we would hold a parents information evening. In place of this, we will organise a Zoom chat with Mrs Tetlow and Mrs Garner and any parents and children who wish to ask questions, say hello or just make contact. This will be an individual meeting rather than all parents at the same time.
You should have received information booklets, one which covers frequently asked questions, and EYFS curriculum information. Also a booklet which shows photos of the school and some staff members. These booklets are available on our website.
Hopefully in September we will find ourselves in a position where we can then offer transition visits, based upon the format we usually use. We are aware how this could be changeable and will keep you up to date with any changes as soon as possible. We are working on the assumption that children will still need to be in small groups in our classrooms in September.
This is what September may look like:
- Week 1: Thursday 10th OR Friday 11th September 2.00pm – 3.30pm. New Foundation children visit Kenn C of E Primary School and have a chance to join in activities in Class 1 – parents to drop them off in Class 1 and return to collect them at 3.30pm.
- Week 2: Monday 14th OR Thursday 17th September 9.00am – 10.30am. New Foundation children visit Kenn C of E Primary School and have a chance to join in activities in Class 1. Also Tuesday 15th OR and Friday 18th September 9.00am – 12.00. New Foundation children visit Kenn C of E Primary School for the morning – parents to drop them off at Class 1 and return to collect them at 12.00.
- Week 3: Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd September OR Thursday 24th and Friday 25th September – 9.00am – 12.30pm. New Foundation children visit Kenn C of E Primary School for the morning and stay for lunch – parents to drop them off in Class 1. School lunch menus will be sent home for choices to be made. Children may have a packed lunch if they prefer. Children will go straight home after eating.
- Week 4: w/b Monday 28th September children start school hopefully full-time, but maybe part-time still.
As things stand at the moment, unfortunately, we will not be able to allow parents to stay for lunch, as we would normally. Due to Government regulations, we imagine that we will not be able to have all the children in school at the same time. Therefore, we are working on having 2 groups working up to full time hours. We will ensure after talking to parents, that your child will have at least one special friend in their group.
We will endeavour to keep you updated and send details out as to what group and therefore day your child will be attending − please contact either Mrs Tetlow, Mrs Garner or myself via the Administrators at Kenn if you have any queries about this.
We look forward to meeting you.
